Student Learning Assessment and Academic Program Reviews
Every program at Purchase College identifies ways students will be able to demonstrate what they have learned within their major and course of study.
This all starts with identifying student learning outcomes within specific courses. From the course level, we can then assess how each course reflects learning within the larger program of study (specific majors) and general education.
Timeline
While formal assessment of academic programs occurs on a rotating basis, annual planning and assessment are strongly encouraged within each program. We operate seven to ten year review cycle. Each program concludes its review with a conversation with two external reviewers, who provide constructive feedback on curriculum and its delivery. Below is a chart indicating the current time line for program reviews at Purchase College.
Academic Program Review Schedule:
(Occurs over two academic years. The first year is preparing the Self-Study and securing external reviewers. The last year is External review visits and the closing of the review process with the Provost’s office)
