Classified Service
This annual award recognizes outstanding service to Purchase College by employees in the classified service, (positions authorized by the State Civil Service Law), including positions represented by the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), Police Benevolent Association New York State (NYSPBA), and New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) and Management Confidential classified employees not represented by a bargaining agent.
Award Details
This award is to acknowledge outstanding service to the College by Classified Service employees. Three President’s Awards, and a fourth award in memory of Mark Albrecht, will be made annually, based on the number of completed nominations received. The final decision as to the number of awards presented is left up to the President’s discretion. The awards will be in the form of a plaque, and a cash award of $500. To the extent practicable, the awards will be distributed among the diverse bargaining units. The awards will be presented in the fall at the campus-wide Convocation ceremony.
Any employee represented by CSEA, NYSCOPBA, NYSPBA, with at least one year of full-time employment at Purchase College in a classified service position at the time of nomination is eligible for consideration.
Evaluative Criteria
The criteria for evaluation of excellence in classified service are listed below.
- Effectiveness in performance, including performance evaluation, attendance record, and relationships with other members of the campus community.
- Innovation, including unusual performance beyond normal expectations and valuable suggestions for improvements in campus operations.
- Effectiveness in community service, including involvement in campus governance, committee work, and voluntary assistance to others in non-job-related activities.
- Continuing growth, efforts at self-improvement through the acquisition of new job-related skills, languages, and formal education.
Please Note: The absence of evaluative material in any one criterion, other than effectiveness, will not be sufficient to disqualify a nominee.
A call for nominations is sent to the campus community in the spring each year.
