Temporary Injuries or Conditions
The Office of Disability Resources (ODR) can assist students who have a temporary injury or condition. Examples may include broken bones, injuries requiring surgery, acute illnesses and pregnancy complications. *
Assistance is determined on a case-by-case, class-by-class basis, and will depend upon the nature of each course — how each course is taught and how this affects the student’s functional limitations.
Since temporary conditions can occur at any point during the semester, the timing can significantly impact the adjustment options available to the student. Timely and open communication with the ODR, faculty, and other campus offices about requested assistance is needed. Students with temporary injuries or conditions are encouraged to contact the ODR to determine adjustment options as soon as possible.
*Pregnancy-related impairments may qualify as disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAAA). Students with impairments or complications related to a pregnancy should contact ODR should reasonable accommodations be needed. Pregnancy itself (without complications) is covered under Title IX, and students seeking general support are encouraged to reach out to the Office of Affirmative Action.
