Sharing
The key to the LiveWhale CMS system lies in the ability it provides to share content easily. The site relies on crowd-sourcing to stay fresh, accurate, and interesting. As content managers, you are the crowd—or the go-to sources of information for your areas.
Sharing Dynamic Content
Duplicate content on a website hurts SEO ranking. Our overarching goal is to maintain a website that is Search Engine Optimized, appearing as close to the top as possible in organic search results. Read more about Search Engine Optimization here.
The CMS allows the same information to appear on multiple pages throughout the site without duplicating it.
So a story posted about a faculty member on an academic program landing page can also appear on the News page, and on the Academics faculty page, for instance, as linked content, therefore avoiding duplication.
There are two important ways to share content: suggest the content to other groups or get shared content by searching for and linking to content that has been shared by other groups.
Suggest Content
The dynamic content types in the dashboard, including stories, events, galleries, forms, profiles, and most blurb types, contain a field called Sharing and Privacy.
Begin typing the name of a group in the sharing field (Suggest this news story to the following group(s)) and the CMS will offer suggestions of other groups, or select Show all groups to see a complete list.
Content managers from the groups selected will receive an alert when content is shared. This is a push style sharing system.
Get Shared Content
You can also retrieve content using the Get Shared… option. When a content tab is selected, a horizontal grey bar appears under the tab with several options. The final option on the right is Get Shared.
After selecting Get Shared, a list of content that has been shared site wide will appear. Click on the box next to the content you’d like, then select Link to Checked Items.
You can also modify your search on the right hand side of the page by choosing from different options. You can share content you’ve already entered in the system by selecting the check box next to it, then use the With Checked Items drop down menu to choose Share.
To add your content to this list, be sure to select the globe icon at the top of the page when entering your content in the dashboard.
