Building Access and Keys
Academic buildings are open 7 a.m.–11 p.m. on weekdays during the semester; some buildings are open longer. Academic building hours are modified on weekends and during vacation periods. Building passes, obtained from the respective building manager, are required for those who are permitted to be in a building beyond normal business hours.
Administrative offices are generally open 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. during the academic year and 8 a.m.–4 p.m. during the summer. (To conserve energy and realize cost savings without disrupting operations, the president may authorize a temporary building closure during the summer and intersessions.)
Each building on campus has a building manager, who must authorize keys for the respective building and offices. A key request form may be obtained from the building manager or the administrative assistant in the school or conservatory. The campus locksmith cuts the necessary keys and delivers all keys to the building manager.
To maintain security, please note the following policies:
- Members of the faculty and staff are not permitted to give or loan their keys to another person. Locks should not be changed without the authorization of the building manager and University Police.
- If you lose your key(s), please immediately notify the University Police and your building manager.
- Before leaving Purchase, whether it is due to resignation, termination, or retirement, all keys must be returned to the building manager (who returns them to the Office of Facilities Management). Retired faculty members may not retain keys to buildings or offices after their retirement date.
