First Year Firsts
You’ve just arrived on campus for your first year of college. We know it can be a bit overwhelming—there’s so much going on and you don’t want to miss out.
Start here. We’ve outlined below some of the “must-do” Purchase experiences—the perfect cure for your FOMO.
Must-Do Firsts
-
The Neuberger Museum of Art is the premier museum of modern, African, and contemporary art right here on Purchase College campus. Plan a visit to see both their permanent collection and changing exhibitions.
-
Take a Yoga Class at the Harbor Center
Check out the full schedule of free yoga classes offered by the Harbor Center for Behavioral Health and Wellbeing. Mats, blocks, and blankets are supplied. All you need to bring is comfortable clothes and an open mind. -
See a Dance Performance
The Purchase Dance Company performs major concerts for students and faculty in the Dance Theatre Lab on campus, at the PAC, and on tour in New York City, New York State, and abroad. -
See a Theatre Performance
The Conservatory of Theatre Arts Theatrical Season offers many opportunities to see student performances. Whether in acting, theatre and performance, or theatre design/technology, support these talented students in their craft. -
Catch a T-shirt at Pancake Madness
The night before finals begin, each semester, faculty and staff stay on campus a little later than usual (think 11:00 pm) to serve breakfast to hungry, cramming, stressed-out students. Take a break and get your mind off finals for a bit! Oh, and don’t miss the t-shirt toss, these student-designed shirts are a keepsake you won’t want to pass up. -
Perform at the Cover Show
Do you love karaoke? Have you ever wanted to perform live on stage as your favorite singer? Imagine being on a full stage with music, lights, dancers, and fans screaming your name. If this appeals to you, join Purchase’s annual Cover Show. Of course you don’t have to perform. Lots of students show up to hang out, see their friends perform, and most importantly, dance! -
Plant a Tree with the Green Team
There are many reasons to join a club and get involved, whether social, extra curricular, or volunteer. Clubs like Green Team aid in our campus wide sustainability efforts by hosting events that give back to the campus, and further Purchase’s sustainable future. -
Dress Up on Halloween
We love anything that includes a costume. Get creative, collaborate with peers, and show us your Halloween best! -
See a Performance at the PAC
Experience world-class music, dance, theatre, film, comedy and more right here on campus. Take advantage of the master classes with professional artists, on site training, internships, job opportunities, and ticket discounts. -
Experience Culture Shock
Our very own on-campus-Coachella, Culture Shock has some of the area’s best emerging artists in diverse musical genres perform. Then, there’s tons of food, carnival rides, games, vendors, and activities. Generally attended by more than 2,000 students and guests, it’s the perfect end of year celebration. -
Vogue at Fall Ball
Fall Ball is an extravagant drag competition. Not only do we crown campus winners in the King, Queen, and Quing categories, but we also bring out some of the greatest guest drag performers in the country. Students who compete spend months rehearsing and practicing their routines and looks. It’s a show you’ll never forget! -
Join a Team or Cheer on the Panthers
Whether they are intercollegiate, club, intramural or recreation, sports are a big part of students’ lives here. But if sports aren’t your thing, go to a Yankee game, pitch a tent under the stars, do yoga at the Wellness Center. Or cheer on one of our teams at our two turf field complexes, swimming pool, rock climbing wall, and other athletic facilities. -
Join a Club at the Student Involvement Fair
This isn’t the campus where students say “there’s nothing to do here.” On any given day, there are numerous events and activities for students to enjoy—performances, clubs, concerts, exhibitions, games, lectures, film screenings, and more. It’s actually a proven theory that the more you’re involved on campus, the more successful you will be! -
Zombie Prom
Think The Walking Dead meets Ru Paul’s Drag Race. It’s a huge event that takes place every spring, featuring live music, a DJ, and, of course, students dressed up like zombies. Don’t forget your fake blood and dancing shoes!
