Dreaming of being a singer?
Modeled after our popular Precollege Vocal Intensive, but geared toward younger singers. Develop and grow your vocal potential in this exciting new program!
Grades 6 - 8
Excited to learn how to sing better? Gain an understanding of how to use your voice in healthy and expressive ways. Explore age-appropriate vocal exercises and repertoire. Work on solos, and participate in group songs, theatrical/musical games and activities. Learn basic music theory, phrasing, dynamics, and tone quality. Discover and practice solid performance technique. Above all, gain confidence for present and future performances!
The 2 weeks culminate with a showcase where students will perform the songs they’ve worked on.
Typical Day - 2025
9:30 – 10:15am
Vocal Technique
We hit the ground running daily with a 45 minute group vocal warm-up and technique session that includes upper body stretching and breathing exercises.
10:15am – 12:00pm
Performance and Music Practice/Technique
Each day we will delve into any combination of the following:
- Music theory: notation, theory practice sheets;
- Theatrical, Rhythmic and harmonic exercises/games;
- Approaching your song: learning what every mark on the page means;
- Sing group songs - learn harmony and blending
- Musical Bag of Knowledge: musical ideas and terms will be introduced and discussed daily and you will practice these throughout the session. Your bag, which will be filled with an immense amount of musical knowledge, will be yours to keep and use as you pursue your singing!
12:00 – 1:00pm
Lunch
1:00 – 3:30pm
Solo/Group Singing (musical theater and some pop songs)
- Fun warm-up songs and rounds, stretching;
- Solo song learning and coaching - incorporate techniques learned in morning session as you work on solo pieces both with the instructors and in master class style;
- Continue work on group songs;
- Activities and discussions apropos to imminent vocal needs of students.

YTH Young Vocalists
Session I: June 30 - July 11 (No class Friday July 4)
Monday – Friday, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm (9 sessions)
$1,080 for the first registration
$970 for the second registration in the family, Purchase College employees and alumni, and early registrations (paid in full by May 2, 2025)
For a well-rounded summer, combine Young Vocalists with Young Artists, Young Writers, and/or Young Filmmakers to maximize your creative experience.
Special Instructions

Please dress appropriately for class each day. Wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for movement and theatre games.
Short skirts/shorts and dresses are not recommended. The AC can be very cold at times and some portions of the day are spent outside for fresh air, sunlight and change of scenery (bring a sweatshirt or dress in layers to accommodate both temperatures.) - Please have long hair pulled back with hair-bands, barrettes, or clips.
- Refillable water bottles are recommended.
- All students will be provided with the necessary supplies.
Student Performance
At the end of the two-week session, students will perform songs they have worked on for invited family and friends.
