Develop your technical and aesthetic skills in film photography!
Grades 9–12
Develop technical and aesthetic skills in film photography. Learn how to see and compose images through the camera’s eye and explore your personal vision. Focus on the basic techniques and concepts of analog black-and-white photography. Learn the mechanics of light and exposure, film development, silver printing, and critique. Program instructors will help students build a portfolio and offer constructive critiques. Students must supply their own camera. All other supplies are included in the program fee. Students present an exhibition of their framed and/or matted work for families and friends.
Typical Day
9:30 – 10:00am
Beginning of Day Check-In & Warm Up
Each day begins with an introduction to a fun new photography technique, questions, and discussion.
10:00am – 12:00pm
Outdoor Photo Walk or Field Trip
We start the day with a class photo walk and/or field trip. Field trips have included going to the pool to take actions shots of the diving camp, meeting with the Acting students to take headshots, and visiting the world renowned Neuberger Museum.
12:00 – 1:00pm
Lunch
Lunch break will be with their Teaching Assistants, and is usually eaten outside to enjoy the beautiful Purchase College campus.
1:00 – 3:00pm
Developing/ Printing Time
After a full day of taking pictures, students have time to develop a selection of images for the final showcase. The instructors will answer questions and review students’ current projects one-on-one.
3:00 – 3:30pm
End of Day Check-In
Artistic endeavors finish for the day and everyone engages in responsible studio clean up. We will check in as a group to address any questions or thoughts before heading home for the rest of the day. Ending the day as a group reinforces friendship and artistic community.

$990 for the first registration
