Academic Support

The School of Natural and Social Sciences offers an assortment of valuable services for its students through the Office of Science Student Support Services.

Students are encouraged to visit this office (located in NS 3044) to obtain information and assistance with tutoring, mentoring, financial aid, or academic advising.

The Office of Science Student Support Services provides a friendly and welcoming environment—a place for students in the natural and social sciences to go to when they need help. This office offers tutoring and mentoring services to students and provides financial aid information and academic advising. Students are offered the assistance and guidance they need to help them succeed in their academic studies and achieve their career goals. To schedule an appointment with one of our tutors, please visit our Einstein corner Starfish page.

The Office of Science Student Support Services also partners with the Offices of Admissions and the Registrar, and works with the college’s Career Development Center to counsel students on graduate and medical school admissions and provide information on employment opportunities after graduation.

Natural Sciences Student Leaders

The Sciences Leaders Club originated in the fall of 2006 and evolved from the peer mentoring program.

This group provides the opportunity to learn new skills, connect with peers, and learn the ins and outs of the Purchase community. Mentees are paired with a trained, academically strong, faculty recommended student leader who serves as a great source of information and support throughout the year. Mentors and mentees meet once a week, in addition to attending bi-monthly lunch workshops.

Here are some of the topics covered throughout the semester:
  • How to be a Savvy Student
  • Growth Mindset
  • Campus Resources
  • Resume, Cover Letter, and Personal Statement Writing
  • Defining Your Own Success
  • … and More!

Students interested in participating in the Science Leaders Club may contact the coordinator of Science Student Support Services.
