Glassworks Sonic Visions

- Glassworks - by Philip Glass
A collaboration between the Purchase Symphony Orchestra, Purchase Jazz, and the Experimental Workshop filmmakers of the School of Film and New Media. T he filmmakers have produced a series of short pieces as accompaniment to the orchestra’s performance of Glassworks (1982) by Philip Glass. Films also accompany interludes between Glass’s original movements for musicians to respond to with improvisation as well as a new selection of eclectic musical arrangements chosen in response to the images. A dynamic volley of picture and sound that will produce something entirely new witnessed for the first and last time by tonight’s audience.

The Purchase Symphony Orchestra is composed of the dedicated and talented students of the Conservatory of Music and special guest artists. Students rehearse six hours a week as a large group and spend additional time in studio classes and sectionals. The Orchestra is proud to present the works of classical composers from the Age of Enlightenment to the present day.
