Meet the Director

Paul Boyd Welcome to the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College!

You have discovered a treasure within the SUNY system! The visionary founders of Purchase College believed that conservatories, long associated with private institutions and prohibitive tuitions, should be within reach of all talented and professional individuals. This purpose drove the creation of the Conservatory of Music and inspires our day-to-day mission in action.

Among this thriving community the principle of “Think Wide Open” is a way of life. You can pursue your passions and achieve your career dreams through our broad array of programs, including multiple undergraduate tracks in Classical Composition, Instrumental Performance, Vocal and Opera Studies, Jazz, Studio Production, and Studio Composition. We also offer exciting opportunities for post-baccalaureate, graduate level, and post-master’s students: a Performer’s Certificate, Master of Music degrees, and the Artist’s Diploma.

An extraordinary set of advantages awaits you. Our proximity to New York City gives access to internationally renowned faculty members in a rich variety of specialties: celebrated performers and composers, leaders of influential organizations and ensembles, and successful studio engineers and producers at the top of their profession.

I invite you to join a musical community that performs at a number of the world’s most prestigious venues nearby such as Birdland, Blue Note, Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Metropolitan Opera House, New York Philharmonic, and more. Our Grammy Award-winning faculty and alumni are further inspiration and encouragement to come be a part of a lasting lineage of distinction enjoyed by Purchase College.

It would be a challenge to imagine a more uplifting and ideal environment than here at Purchase College. The Conservatory and campus are alive with vibrant activities, with a prominent Performing Arts Center, the Neuberger Museum of Art, and many events and organizations devoted to interests and lifestyles way beyond a typical university experience.

We believe in big dreams, and have the experience, expertise, and connections to make them happen. Yes, it takes commitment and effort, but we are all in as long as you are. I look forward to welcoming you in person, and especially to hearing the music you will make here!
