Purchase Dance Company
Performance is a vital part of the conservatory’s professional training program.
The Purchase Dance Company, composed of BFA students, presents concerts in The Performing Arts Center on campus and in New York City, participates in festivals on and off campus, and tours nationally and internationally. The company represents a standard of excellence and a diversity of work ranging from reconstructions to contemporary, modern, and classical ballet repertory to new works created especially for the Purchase Dance Company.
Repertory for the Purchase Dance Company’s major concerts and tours has included Ohad Naharin’s Decadance; Kyle Abraham’s Counterpoint; Aszure Barton’s Over/Come; George Balanchine’s Serenade, Concerto Barocco, Valse-Fantaisie, The Four Temperaments, and Tarantella; Merce Cunningham’s Change of Address, Changing Steps, Fielding Sixes, Duets, and Septet; Lester Horton’s Beloved; Doris Humphrey’s The Shakers and Passacaglia; Bill T. Jones’ Ravel: Landscape or Portrait?, Spent Days Out Yonder and D-Man in the Waters; Anna Sokolow’s Dreams; Lar Lubovitch’s Dvorak Serenade; José Limón’s A Choreographic Offering and Psalm; Kenneth MacMillan’s pas de deux from Concerto; Dianne McIntyre’s Lyric Fire; Andrea Miller’s SAMA; Mark Morris’ Gloria, A Lake, and Grand Duo; Lin Hwai Min’s Crossing the Black Water; Bronislava Nijinska’s Les Noces; Martha Graham’s Diversion of Angels; Appalachian Spring and Chronicle; Trisha Brown’s Set and Reset, Grove and Countermove and Glacial Decoy; Stephen Petronio’s Lareigne; Paul Taylor’s Cloven Kingdom, Le Sacre du Printemps, Junction, and Company B; Twyla Tharp’s Sweet Fields; and Doug Varone’s Strict Love, Possession, Rise, and Lux.

New works and classics in ballet and modern dance are prepared and rehearsed for performance each year. The choreography is licensed from major artists or created by faculty and guest artists.
