Pilates Micro-Credential
Classically trained Pilates Mat Teachers are highly sought after instructors by schools, studios, gyms and private clients. Students gain credit towards this skill making them more marketable to future employers in the industry.
The Pilates Mat Micro-Credential is a multi-semester study of Joseph Pilates’s Mat exercises culminating in the ability to perform, teach and structure a safe and effective Pilates Mat workout. Beginning with Pilates I, required for first year students in the Conservatory of Dance program, and continuing with Pilates II, students learn the core Mat exercises and principles of the Pilates method focusing on core stabilization and integrated functionality. The Pilates III and IV semesters are designed to prepare apprentices to effectively teach Pilates Mat to students of all levels. Beginning with Pre-Pilates and continuing through the Advanced repertoire, apprentices will learn the philosophy of Joseph Pilates’ system, exercise objectives, progression, injury modification and hands-on spotting techniques. Successful completion of the Pilates Mat Micro-Credential includes a total of 100 hours of observation, teaching and practice as well as written and practical assessments. Working with 2nd Generation Master Teacher Trainer, Simona Cipriani, apprentices meeting these requirements and passing the final practical examination will be awarded a certificate of completion by Purchase College and The Art and Science of Contrology.
