The Liberal Studies B.A. Degree Completion Program is designed especially for adults and transfer students who need to complete their degree within a tight timeframe and with a flexible schedule. To accelerate the process of achieving a bachelor's degree, the program accepts up to 90 transfer credits from accredited colleges and institutions. You can choose from one of four majors offered at the Purchase College campus:

  • Liberal Studies
  • Liberal Studies: Arts
  • Liberal Studies: Communications/Media Studies
  • Liberal Studies: Legal Studies

Financial Aid for Liberal Studies Degree Students
Liberal Studies degree students are encouraged to apply for financial aid and may be eligible for TAP awards, Pell Grants, and student loans as a full-time or part-time Liberal Studies student. Part-time Liberal Studies students may also be eligible for a New York State Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) award:

  • Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the required federal application.
  • The Federal School Code for Purchase College is 006791.
  • The recommended filing deadline is February 1.

Scholarships for Liberal Studies Degree Students
Each year, the School of Liberal Studies & Continuing Education is provided a modest budget from which to award scholarships. To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Have completed at least 12 Purchase College credits.
  2. Have completed at least 60 total credits (transfer and Purchase).
  3. Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA at Purchase.
  4. Demonstrate financial need as indicated by your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Depending on the funds available, awards are made in amounts ranging from approximately $250 to $1,000 per semester and are subject to change each year. You are encouraged to file a FAFSA each year by April 15 to determine eligibility for these scholarships.

Private Scholarship Sources
Students often overlook the opportunity to receive private scholarships as a source of financial assistance. These may range from private foundations to employer matching funds.
