Melanie Baker creates charcoal and pastel drawings of overwhelming scale that investigate symbols and the nature of imagery used as propaganda. In the past, her drawings have focused on American government officials and cropped portraits of the president and his cabinet. Most recently she has focused on historical images from other empires such as the Roman eagle, weapons and other paraphernalia. Baker received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 1977 and her MFA from Stony Brook University in 2001. Baker is a New York Foundation of the Arts fellow and was the 2003 NYFA Prize recipient, and has exhibited her work at numerous venues in New York City. For information call 914-251-6750.

Pablo Helguera is a visual artist and writer. His work in both areas deals with analyzing the context in which art is presented and transmitted to audiences. His visual art ranges from experimental symposiums, phonograph recordings, exhibition audio-guides, publications or nomadic museums. In his recent project, The School of Panamerican Unrest, Helguera drove in a van with a portable school house to dozens of cities across the Americas, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, Chile. Setting up his school house in each city, Helguera held collective discussions with local art communities around issues of globalization. His works and performances have been presented in major institutions and biennials in the United States and abroad. For information call 914-251-6750.
